My daughter, who is 12, was typing an assignment on Wordpad. She came to me
cring and I looked at it. I has a "white outline of another wordpad over part
of her assigment. It also has an hourglass on it too. I cannot save it. She
dose not have the assigment written down except on the computer. Help us or
she will need to start over.

This might help: Press Ctrl/Alt-Delete to open the Task Manager. Click
the "Applications" tab. If there are two instances of Wordpad, click
the one that isn't responding, click "End Task". Close the window and
see what damage was caused.

After a crash, restarting some software will reload a backup of the file
there before the crash. I doubt Wordpad would do this, but if you click
File, Open, you can see if there's a file starting with "~" or another
unique character; that could be the backup file.

Could be because of a particular application is "not responding". Are you
able to Scroll Down the file and can you select the text within. If you are
still able to select the text then select the entire text (ctrl+A) and click
Edit - Copy (Ctrl+C). Open another application like Notepad and click Edit -
Paste (Ctrl+V). Save your work first and the again copy the entire text to
wordpad again.

If you are unable to do anything with wordpad then I will suggest you that
you take some screen shots of your screen and paste them in PaintBrush. So,
atleast you don't have to think about the matter. Press the Print Screen
button from your keyboard, open PaintBrush - click Edit - Paste. Save the
file. Take another screen shots and save them.

Hope this help, let us know!

Using the mouse, try to highlight the good text of the assignment, then
copy it to the clipboard (right-click then copy or <CTRL>C). Next, open
another instance of Wordpad and paste the text into the blank doc
(<CTRL>-V).

Good Luck,
