WORD type problem

All of a sudden when I type, the key I strike is not the
letter that shows up. For instance, if I strike a 'c',
a 'x' will show in the screen. This just started
yesterday afternoon. I'm using Word 2002. I did get
screen flash just before this started that said something
about "WOW effect". Maybe I got a virus??? My virus def
were updated yesterday and I auto scan regularly. Just
after I got the WOW message I started having the typing
problem, but then it cleared up only to start again
today. Thanks for any advice.
