Word Template

I use an office memo template to create documents. The problem I have is
weeks ormonths later when I reopen an old doc it changes the date of the memo
to the date that I reopen the doc. How do I prevent the original date on the
memo from changing?

You are using a DATE or TIME field rather than a CREATEDATE field. This
field should be put in the original template if possible (instead of
inserting using the keyboard shortcut or header/footer toolbar button).

In the document in question, press Alt-F9 to display field codes. Then
change the field to a CREATEDATE field, press F9 and then Alt-F9.

See http://addbalance.com/word/datefields1.htm for information on the
different kinds of datefields and how to format them.

It sounds like you have inserted the date using Insert>Date and Time.
It's doing what it was designed to do. To prevent the automatic
update, remove the automatic date field from your template and enter
the date manually. Do the same to any documents you've already saved
that you don't wish to have updated.

Paulette,

You might want to read my response to the original poster. Changing the
field to a createdate field will help recover the original date without
having to remember or figure it out some other way.
