Libre Office is free, open source and really quite good:

It works on Windows, Linux and Mac too :).

It's a full Office Suite, so you'll get a Word Processor, Speadsheet, Drawing app, etc... I don't think it's possible to selectively install just the Word Processor anymore, but you may find the companion apps useful anyway (they aren't too bulky and share the same core).
