Word files saved to CD are read only; I can't save any changes.

I'm using Windows XP, version 5.1 I am trying to save Word files from my hard
drive to a CD. They seem to save okay, but when I open the files again (from
the CD) and try to save changes, I get a message that the file is read-only.
When I check the security settings for the original file on my hard drive,
"recommend read-only" is not selected.

You will have to:
1. Copy the file from the CD to your hard drive
2. Make the changes using the copy on the hard drive.
3. Save the modified file back to a CD

Good luck

From what you state, you have obviously saved these Word files to a CD-R.
These files are always saved as Read Only on that particular type of media.
What you must do to make changes is to copy ALL files from that particular
CD-R back to your hard drive and make the changes that you desire THEN save
them to a NEW CD-R. The old CD-R goes in the trash can. If you often desire
to make changes to these saved files, you should use a different media such
as a CD-RW, external hard drive, or Thumb Drive [my choice].
