Word Docs slow to open

I'm not sure if this is a Windows problem or an Office problem...
Starting just a few days ago, all of a sudden it's started taking 1 to 2
minutes for MS-Word to open a document when I double click on the document
itself. It makes no difference if Word is already open or not. If I
open a document from within Word using the Open menu, the document opens
quickly.

Also, if I click on a link from with in an e-mail in Outlook, it also takes
1 to 2 minutes for that page to open in IE.

I never had this problem before and I can't figure out what changed to cause
this. Any ideas and possible solutions?

I appreciate any help in advance.

Thanks. I checked out the link you gave me and tried all of the suggestions
listed there, but they didn't solve my problem.

When I open Word from the Start Menu, it opens instantly. And if I open a
doc file from the Open menu within Word, the file opens instantly. It's only
when I click on a doc file outside of Word (either from Outlook, or a doc
file anywhere else) that it takes up to 2 minutes to open. It makes no
difference whether another instance of Word is already open or not. I have
exactly the same problem with Excel worksheets and web links.

Any other suggestions would be very much appreciated.

This problem can also be caused by ACT!8. The preload setting needs to be
changed from -stayrunning to -preload in:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
