Word: correcting error

G

Guest

If I want to correct a mistake and go back into text, the correction is made
at the expense of the next letter in the word. zthis goes on until I get to
the end of the sentence/line. This only happens from time to time. What hav I
activated and how can i turn it off? Gordon.

You have Overtype mode turned on, probably because you pressed the
Insert key when you meant to hit one of the other nearby keys. Press
Insert again to turn it off.

You can tell when you're in Overtype mode by looking at the status bar
at the bottom of the window. If the letters OVR are black instead of
grey, Overtype is active. Besides the Insert key, you can toggle the
mode on and off by double-clicking those letters (or by
checking/unchecking "Overtype mode" in Tools > Options > Edit).
