Word 2003: Many functions lost aka "greyed-out"

I am editing a 15 page document with lots of different formatting. For some
reason, several of the Word functions are not available in this document:

* all 'Reviewing' functions
* Select all
* Page Setup

These are simply "greyed-out" so I can't use them. What could be the
problem here? Since I cannot "Select All", I can't just copy and paste the
entire document into a new Word document. Please help!

Can you do anything in this document? could you be using an expired trial
version?

No, this is a full version on our network, and this is the only document I
have these troubles with. Also, only several functions are gone, not
everything.
