Word 2002 Tool Tips

I am using Word 2002 in a Win XP Pro (SP1) and cannot get Word to remember to
keep the setting for showing screen tips on tool bars. When I set the
option, it only remains for that session. The next time I start Word, the
setting is back to not showing screen tips on tool bars. This behavior is
also demonstrated in Excel 2002 as well. Is this a video driver problem?

Up to the point where you mention "Excel as well" my thought was that Word's
DATA key in the Registry had been damaged. You might try backing that up,
then deleting it to see if the problem rectifies itself (in Word).
