won't log on under user name

I cannot log on as myself. It states:
Windows cannot load the locally stored profile. Possible causes of this error
include insufficient security rights or a corrupt local profile. If this
problem
persists, contact your network administrator. DETAIL - An I/O operation
initiated by the registry failed unrecoverably. The registry could not read
in, or write out, or flush, one of the files that contain the system's image
of the registry.

I have tried:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;812339
I managed to log on as Administrator but none of my files, pictures etc are
accessible.

I have also tried:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/811151
I created a new user name and tried to transfer files from my old user name
to new one, but after going through some of the steps there, cannot get even
locate my old user name on the hidden files on my computer/documents and
settings. This is despite having my old user name clearly visible on the
control panel user accounts.

I am desperate as I really hope I have not lost my pictures, files etc.
Thanks.

In locating the old folders, keep in mind that the folder name may be
different than your name. Example: If the account was created as "Bob" and
then the user name changed to "Jim," the folder names for Jim's account do
not change. Jim's files will be found in \Documents and Settings\Bob\

If you run into "access denied" messages, you can take ownership of the
files.
