Woman's point of view of Vista

Well, my husband has forced me to use Vista since August and as of today RC2
I have decided to divorce him. Just kidding ;- ) but I really really do not
like this Vista. First off I am not running Aero graphics becuase my computer
1.5GHZ laptop 32MB cant handle it. But, I have used a majority of the
features and play around with the system for a few hours a day and really
can't wait to use my XP and NT work computers, and I hate going to work. My
daughter has a mac with an old operating system 9.2 and I even enjoy using
that. I can't quite put my finger on it but I just don't enjoy the user
experience with vista. Of course my husband says it will take us gals to get
used to it, he enjoys all the bells and whistles but that's his opinion. I
will say my programs are snappier and browsing the internet is much faster. I
do also like some of the customization features like adding my kids photos to
windows and folders. But the way the control panels are laid out and how to
access things...VERY CONFUSING. So, I will continue to use it but I will
continue to hate it... I have even changed the look of the interface so it
looks like my old Windows 2000 computer. I'm sure things will change a lot
when it is finally released but as of now I don't see to many not techy
secretaries with kids enjoying this monster. Now if they had Vista woman's
edition with flowers and bright windows and not this terrible looking dark,
dingy cave with impossible to find options I would change my mind but I'll
stick with XP.

You just opened a can of worms, by saying "Now if they had Vista woman's
edition with flowers and bright windows ...".

What do you mean by "this terrible looking dark. dingy cave"? The default UI
Basic is a light blue color, not dark and dingy.

unfortunately nothing will change when its going to be released....

the features and layout has been written in stone and they are doing bug
fixes ...

I complained about the problems you state from the first time I installed
the first beta I could get with the aero look.
They had to redesign the whole thing... it was bad... and I must INFORM the
people in here that what you plainly state and they cannot perceive is what
the huge majority of users will think too when they use it....

What do you mean by "this terrible looking dark. dingy cave"?

GEE the people in here are slow.... what portion of "sucks" dont you
understand?

If you know anyone in microsoft please tell them to start working on a gui
improvment with SP1
right after RTM (since they had closed ears all the time when I was sending
them feedback durring the betas)

J

John Jay Smith

how smart... someone doesnt like vista so he has to be a troll....

I will give it to you loud and clear. If you like vista the way it is, you
will be the minority when its released and
the public sees what a horrible job they have done with the interface and
design.

SP1 is not due out until the end of 07.

I would have like to seen the maximized title bar in Aero Glass not be a
dark color - black, the taskbar black, and the sidebar black. It also is
disappointing that there's no way to change the color of the sidebar, and
the taskbar's color only changs slightly when you are changing the color
scheme for Aero Glass. I would like it to be more of a silver color with
the same effects that it has now, but that's just my opinion. I probably
wouldn't mind the darkness so much, but my monitor has an issue where it
will not get bright even at 100% brightness anymore, so it really makes
things look dark and dingy. It's not that bad though. I like the Aero
Glass besides the maximized windows title bars and no animations when you
maximize or restore windows. I like Aero Glass more than XP's Luna or Media
Center's Royale, but it was easier to see on my dark monitor, and I wished
they would have kept them in Vista. Forcing people who cannot run Aero
Glass to stick with one light blue color is kind of cheap. It also
irritates me that in Beta 2, I could change from Classic, to Vista Basic, to
Glass almost instantly, but in later builds, it takes for ever to change the
appearance.

LOL! Really!? I wonder if that has anything to do with Dell, HP, et al
wanting everyone to buy their new computers?

Being a Troll isnt a exclusive to not liking Vista.

You also claim to understand and know the tastes of the public when you
state that anybody who does like the interface will be in the minority.
Where is your source to back this statement up, or are you just purely
gifted in your affinity to connect with the desires and wishes of the
population.

Anway, you have had enough scraps from me... Feeding time is over for you
too.

Im suprised you have continued to download and install all those beta's when
you obviously have a pathological hatred to its interface. I suggest you
spend the couple of hundred dollars your saved by not buying vista and take
a vacation.

Your not alone, I am a power user, been using PC's since the late 80's,
and have been running various flavours since then (Win 3, WinFWG 3.11,
Win95, NT4, Win2k, XP, XPx64), Never have I felt so lost in an operating
system, as I do in Vista...

Sad to say....

Will I be buying it, nope, I will use my MSDN copy for compatability
testing of apps I write, but I will be sticking to XP x64....

I really don't know what Microsoft were thinking when the came up with the
majority of Vista's new useability features. To make matters worse, they
asked for feedback, then ignored it, and not just mine, many other
poeple's...

oh god, its worse than I thought..

I was thinking of renting a blimp to hover over redmond littering the MS
facilites with complaint notes.. perhaps then then would listen....

If not, I would ignite the blimp.... :)

Okay, Not all will agree on the perfect view.
No. 1, your computer isn't Vista ready, well, not completely. Your memory is
way too low for the OS. But hey, with some upgrades, you may find it a little
more pleasurable.
Now, as far as the dingy cave look, if you right click on the screen and
click the "personalize" option, you can find a different wallpaper, they have
some that are fairly scenic and "female friendly" if that is the term you
would want to use. If none of them suit your fancy, go to Yahoo, under the
"image search" and type in "wallpaper (the kind of look you want)" any
wallpaper will work with Vista.
And if you husband still likes the "cave look" that is cool. you can set up
a different user, and have your desktop look however you feel most
comfortable with it, and he can still have is "Manly" look going on for his
user account.
This can be done by clicking start, then "Control Panel." If I remember
correctly, it should be the second Icon on the right in "Vista Look" If you
are in "Classic View" just look for the Icon that looks like two people's
heads.
Now, as far as functionality of it, there are some things that will take
getting used to. But that is so with any new system.
Personally, as a guy, I agree with your husband. But you know how we guys
are, just larger versions of little boys. We are still amazed and amused by
new toys and tricks.
Either way, I am sorry you aren't enjoying it as much as others do. Maybe in
time, you will learn to love it, or maybe you will switch back to your XP
setup. But that is your decision.

I hope this helps. :)

Just got back from Spain, family wedding. Aren't there any women on this
board? Yes, boys I have 32MB of video memory and 992G of hardwired Kingston
chips. If a 1 year old laptop can't run Vista then who is Microsoft actually
selling Vista to? And talk about a crazy time to install this it took me over
4 hours to download 8 drivers so that I could just install this. Most women
aren't gonna upgrade to Vista, they are gonna buy a new computer with Vista
unless their husband works in the IT department. Before I got married I was
able to install Windows XP on my 3 year old HP that for some god unknown
reason came with WindowsME(though I did like the name) without a single
hiccup. Now, I buy a computer that is 13 months old and try to install Vista
and I have more trouble then getting my husband to take out the trash because
he forgot to take it out the night before. Anyway, I'm still using Vista and
haven't had and real crashes yet. Though copying files and trying to degrag
the HD or trying to empty old SIM2 .zip files just freezes my laptop. And
when I try to report the issue that freezes it also. I don't think the task
manager has had such a work out in years. Don't hate us for complaining but
we got a lot of complaining to do.

I just took the time to read some of your posts, some of you guys are real
jerks. This is the computer I have and I expect it to last at least 3 years
then I hope to get another, though will probably before then. I honestly
don't care about Aero or all the other stuff, I just want to be able to use
my laptop and hopefully my desktop at work without problems and find
solutions to my issues quicker and with less headaches then XP. Though I'm
not finding that in this release. If Vista is all about Aero and I can't get
the entire experience because that is the actual UI that us girls should be
using then you have some issues. All 3 of my computers even XP has the old NT
interface, yes it's ugly and blocky but it doesn't get in the way(ok, so it
is purple). If you so called men can't live with the real Windows interface
then you might as well get yourself a pretty little Apple. And if any of you
are looking for dates I have a few GUY friends that might be interested just
let me know.

Though I haven't taken the time to look it seems that maybe, maybe 15% of
the posts have been from women. Though, at least where I work in the banking
sector 60% are women, and we HATE are computers, but did Microsoft ever ask
us for our input....no. I appreciate the comments from some of you, and I
understand that a lot of you couldn't care less about us if it wasn't for
what we had under our skirts. Guys next time you are at work look around and
feel some sympathy for us, You've created this mess. Vista feels like a man
designed it. Let us have some input next time, or in the future if it ever
gets in our hands for a few days a month your computer will lock up and be a
total B!TCH to you, so give us a break or at least allow us to be heard
without be so critical.
