This is the Movie Maker newsgroup so another appropriate answer is that you
can import a wmv file into Movie Maker, and save it as a DV-AVI file

You can use TMPGEnc to convert from WMV to AVI.

--- My TMPGEnc (ver. 2.5) dont convert wmv to avi but MPEG to AVI.
Is that correct ?

Thanks Bob,

Didn't know that. Trying it now, using a WMV video source with a WMA audio.

File -> Output to file -> AVI file

WARNING: The default settings will save the movie as uncompressed 24-bit
RGB video, with uncompressed PCM audio. The file size will be HUGE --
approximately 234 Mbps (including audio & video).

If you use MM2 to save your movie as compressed DV-AVI, the bit rate will be
approximately 27 Mbps (including audio & video).

A followup note about my using TMPGEnc to convert a WMV file to an AVI.

When I use a 6 second WMV clip for video, and a 20 second WMA clip for
audio, as the input files, I get a 20 second AVI file in both cases. BUT

- when it's made without selecting a compression codec, the video is spread
across the full 20 seconds with the audio. playing in slow motion.
- when I choose the Cinepak codec, the video runs for the 6 seconds, and the
audio continues to the end - so the video and audio play as they do in the
input files

Import the file into Movie Maker as a single clip, put it on the timeline,
and save the movie as a DV-AVI file.
