WM looses psw and won't hold it for NNTP.

Mr. Arnold

WM goes through this thing of loosing the psw. When I go to Tools/Accounts
for the NNTP account and look at the psw, it's gone, and when I enter the
psw and tell WM to Remember the PSW, it won't hold. Sometimes it will hold
for a while, but other times it just won't hold the psw. It's kind of
ridiculous.

It is quite likely that this problem is caused by your antivirus.
Windows Mail is not compatible with most McAfee or
Norton security programs. Those will need to be
uninstalled, not just disabled.

After uninstalling your non-compatible antivirus, download
and install a more compatible antivirus like the free Avast:
http://www.avast.com/eng/avast_4_home.html

Even compatible antivirus programs will need to have their
email scanning option turned off. For more on this topic see
http://www.oehelp.com/OETips.aspx#3

After you have done the above, if the problem continues,
it means the account was corrupted by the antivirus.
Delete the account, restart Windows Mail, then recreate that
account.

If McAfee and Norton are not compatible with Windows Mail, why are computer
manufacturers putting it on computers. I have always used Norton but this
new computer came with it. I haven't had a problem yet with McAfee and
Windows Mail. I haven't figured out yet if I need to configure McAfee's
options yet. So would I not want it to scan email??

Because McAfee and Norton pay them to do it. Email scanning should be off
in any anti-virus program. It's redundant.

The AV vendors pay the computer manufacturers for the
privilege of installing a trial version, in the hopes that when
the trial period ends you will buy the full program.

Read the second link I gave below.
Then scan through all the posts that have been published here
for the past 7 months. Hundreds of reports deal with the fact that
Windows Mail problems were cured right after McAfee or Norton
antivirus was uninstalled.
