Wireless networking problems

Hello

I hope somebody can help me. I just purchased a Compaq Presario X1000 Laptop and am trying to get it connected to my wireless network. I have a LinkSys router (not wireless), which is attached directly to two computers in my office. Attached to the LinkSys router is an Apple Airport 802.11g networking base station, which connects perfectly to an eMac in a bedroom upstairs

I was under the assumption that my 802.11b card on the laptop would be able to connect to the airport to get on the internet and share files. One of my problems is that on the laptop, the airport and the Linksys router appear as seperate networks and I am not sure which one to select. The signal strength for both is *very low* unless I am in the same room as the wireless router. After disabling the bridge that the networking wizard automatically set up, I managed to connect to the internet from the notebook, but the connection is intermitent. Worse, I still can't figure out how to access my files. When I open the Network Neighborhood, the desktop computers, which are in the same workgroup, don't appear. On my Mac, I can access files on my Windows desktops without a problem

Any help/suggestions would be grealy appreciated

Thanks!

Hi Rob,

I think the problem is that your Wireless Access Point is
802.11g but your wireless network card is 802.11b.
