Wireless Network with Windows XP and Windows 98 Problems

I've set up a wireless network with 2 desktops and a laptop. One desktop is running Win XP and is connected to the wireless router with a cable. The other desktop and laptop are running Win 98 and are using wireless cards. I used the Network Setup Wizard on the XP computer and let it walk me through. I then used the Network Setup Wizard off the Win XP CD to set up the Win 98 computers.

The internet connection is great and has never been a problem. File and print sharing was great at first, but suddenly my Win XP computer was not visible on the Win 98 computers, but they can still see each other. I also lost the Win 98 computers on my Win XP computer, but was able to "add a network place" to get them back. I've gone through the entire Network Troubleshooter with no luck, tried mapping a network drive on the Win 98 computers to get the Win XP back with no luck, and do not know enough about networking to go any further

Any suggestions would be most appreciated.

Hello J
Try running a Find Computers in search (on each machine).
Occasionally I run into the same problem and resolve it this way.
Post back with results
hope it helps

Nope, already tried that. I can't find the XP computer from either of the 98's that way. Is there anything in 98 similar to the "add a network place" command in XP? That allowed me to get my connections to the 98's back on the XP.

Good Morning J
Try these links

and

Also here is a good "ping" resource
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/tr...nxppro/proddocs/sag_TCPIP_pro_PingConnect.asp
But perhaps first, reboot all the machines and your router/modem
Post back on how you do
