Wireless Firewall or Router?

Hello. I have a question regarding firewall/wireless connection. On my
laptop at home I connect to the internet thru a hardware linksys router
(DSL). However, when I go to a cafe shop which has free wireless internet and
I connect to the internet do I need a software firewall for the wireless
connection? Or, do I need a wireless router as well? If so, what would you
reccomend? I turned on XP firewall, but I read that it might not be enough.
And if I decide to get a software firewall/router would that interfere with
my hardware linksys router when I try to connect to the internet at home thru
DSL? Thanks for any suggestions!

hardware and software can co-exist.
to have no firewall when using a wireless access point is
looking to be hacked.
xp firewall is really not enough. zonealarm at
zonelabs.com for free version.

So I only need a firewall not a router right?

Wrong! But, that's only "your" opinion.

No, No, No... The Windows Firewall is half a firewall. It only checks
incoming traffic. Outgoing traffic, which is very common with
worms, keyboard loggers and spyware, is not even noticed by Windows
Firewall.

Zonelarm checks traffic in *both* directions... even the free version.

Why MS wasted their time with this crippled firewall, is beyond me.
Not to mention the less savy multitudes in computer land that think they are protected by
this half a firewall... scary.

Disable it - and get a decent firewall.

No, you only need a wireless card (USB version should work). Then you might need to use SP2's Wireless Network Setup Wizard to connect directly (From control panel).

Just for interest sake, which Cafe shop is allowing you to connect to their IT infrastructure? I send out about 10m emails a day and would be interested to know this!!! If you tell me then I will give you a free wireless card to play with!! Is it in UK by any chance? Do they have electric points as well?

I use non Microsoft products wherever possible which requires no activation.

I use Netscape 7.2 as my default browser which has everything I need for my work.

I believe in good Financial Management!! I do not believe in enriching rich jerks!
