Wireless connection

I have D-Link Router "DI-6124+ 802.11g/2.4GHz Wireless router" and my laptop
is Acer TravelMate 4100. It has Intel(R)PRO/Wireless 2200BG Network
Connection". I bought this "D-Link Router" yesterday and have been trying to
setup but I cannot get the Internet.

I found in the D-Link manual that D-Link is compatible with 802.11b/g
wireless adapter.

Due to lack of knowledge of networking setup and hardware I do not
understand that it is the problem of hardware compatible or the problems of
setup.

So please kindly help me to fix this problem.

he wihy
first u plug ur internet wire in WAN port of router
switch on the router
then power on ur laptop
on the desktop right click on my network places then properties
then right click on Intel(R)PRO/Wireless 2200BG Network connection (local
area connection 1 or 2) then choose properties
then from local area connection properties set the ip address and dns as
obtain Automatically then restart ur laptop.
when laptop restarts
click Start-> run->type ipconfig/all c:\ip.txt
then from c drive open this ip.txt file.
it will show u like this

Description . . . . . . . . . . . : Intel(R)PRO/Wireless 2200BG
Network connection
Physical Address. . . . . . . . . : 00-0F-EA-9C-58-96

Dhcp Enabled. . . . . . . . . . . : No

IP Address. . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.0.7

Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.255.0

IP Address. . . . . . . . . . . . : fe80::20f:eaff:fe9c:5896%4

Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.0.1

DNS Servers . . . . . . . . . . . : 202.56.230.6
what ever u see in ip address u have to change the last digit by "1"
like if ip is 192.168.0.7 then ip of router should be 192.168.0.1
then type this ip in ur browser u can access the router by typing username
and password

the u have to choose WAN setup
if u have dsl connection then u have to provide user name and password in
the required field. save the setting and restart.

Hi,

Thank you for your effort to help me.
Just I returned the D-Link and I will try "Netgear" some of my friends
recommended it. The D-Link I'd get only maximum 54Mbps
but the "Netgear" it is possible to get maximum 108 Mbps. Next week I'd get
the Netgear.

Rather than returning the D-Link, you should have asked for help and made a
proper post noting what kind of broadband connection you have, whether you
followed the router installation instructions, etc. Most likely you'll
have the same problem with the Netgear. You will not get 108Mbs with your
ACER 11b or g card. See these links for some good basic tutorials in
networking, routers, etc.

Thank you for the links and I am quite new on this subject and frankly I'd
like to say English is also not easy for me.

My broadband connection is ADSL. I followed the installation instruction
but the middle of the installation some of the instructions did not appear
(skipped some instruction). Now I have already returned the D-Link and
going to get Netgear next week. Still I am thinking to get about a good
wireless router with firewall.
