Wireless Connection unavailable with XP

I need help! I am trying to set up a wireless home network. Bought a
wireless broadband router from Sweex which runs fine in one go. My
laptop with Win2K with built-in Wifi support connected to it directly.
No problems there.

However, I cannot get my XP (Pro, SP1) workstation to connect to it.
If i plug it with a cable to the router, everything works fine. I have
an Edimax 7104PC PCMCIA card for it. Hardward is recognized just fine.

When I click the connection icon, i can see the SSID of my AP, i need
to click "allow me to connect ... even though it is insecure", then
"connect" and then...

nothing!

A while later the task bar icon pops up with: "wireless networks are
available" again.

Ipconfig /all shows "Media disconnected" all the time. Wireless
connection unavailable is what I keep seeing.

I have spent HOURS trying to fix this problem. A friend of mine has
the exact same problem with XP Home and the same hardware
configuration.

I have tried the following already (after finding out that so many
people on usenet have the same problem):
- verify Channel/SSID settings to be the same
- stop Zero Config (and restart again)
- uninstall Internet Gateway
- no Firewall service etc.
- add WEP encryption

My drivers for the card seem to be OK; no later version available;
there is a "wireless networks" tab so it should be Zero Config aware.

If you could help me out, please reply with some more things to try. I
am running out of options here ane have recommended this hardware
configuration to my friend too who has now "thrown away" the bucks for
this nice feature...

Thanx in advance,

Anne.

Have you got WPA capabilities in your hardware? If not, then upgrade the
firmware of your router and card to support it. If that's not possible,
then look at your WinXP machine and remove hotfix 826942 and see if that
restores your network connectivity.

I had the same problem. I tried everything including downloading a
microsoft patch. What fixed it was via reading the instructions!
Edimax says to use the ZD Configure program - i.e. do not configure
via Windows. I compared the setup on the Router with the Wireless
card on xp. The Channel No was different. I changed these & it
worked.
