WinXP SP2 - Scandisk runs at every startup despite GOOD shutdown

My machine crashed last night but I have it up and running fine at the
moment. However, after my crash, every time I boot up my machine WinXP
insists on running scandisk on my hard drives even though I had a good
(normal) shutdown.

What caused WinXP to scan my disks at every bootup despite the fact I had a
good shutdown? How can I stop XP from scanning at every bootup?

Go to the hard disk manufacturer's web site and download their diagnostic software
respective to your hard disk. After the test, you will know if the hard disk is bad or
not..
