WinStat

I have recently begun receiving error messages related to WinStat. I click
OK and they go away, but sometimes they come up 25 or 30 times in a row.
They say an error has occured at a memory location and to click OK to
terminate WinStat, but it never terminates even when I click OK. What is
WinStat? I searched on the Web and the only hits I got said it was some kind
of Excel add-on. I have Excel, but I'm not running it when the messages
appear. When I do a ctrl+alt+delete and check my running processes it shows
WinStat active and using 13000+k. Is this a Microsoft product, a virus of
some kind, or something else all together. As you may have guessed I'm a
novice user.

Try this:

http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=winstat&btnG=Google+Search&meta=

There are many hits for various programs. Some of them are for a spyware
program. You should scan your system for spyware. There are many posts in
this newsgroup and also news://microsoft.public.windowsxp.general dealing
with spyware removal.

Thanks. I run WinPatrol, SpyBot, AdAware, MacAfee and the beta version of
the Microsoft spyware detection program, plus the XP firewall. I keep
everything updated regularly. Nothing picks up WinStat. I'm not even sure
if it is a spyware/virus. It doesnt show up when I search either the MacAfee
or Microsoft websites.
