WINS registration

Hello,

I had asked a similar question about DNS a couple weeks ago, and can't
find a WINS newsgroup, so I thought I'd ask here. I have a server (DC) with
network interfaces facing the domain, and a second NIC facing a seperate
private network for backup purposes. Unfortunately, it is registering both
IPs in WINS, so some people (downlevel clients) are getting the wrong IP in
WINS when requesting services, which is causing problems.. Does anyone know
how to prevent a DC from registering IPs on one interface in WINS? Thanks
in advance,

Andre

The best and easiest way, and the highly recommended way is to not multihome
a DC, DNS, RRAS or WINS server. This is problematic. There are registry
entries you can use to eliminate registration and addition manual task to
create the records in DNS, but as far as WINS, you can probably disable on
the "backup" NIC side NetBIOS, MS File & Print and the MS Client service and
see if that helps.
