After entering login and password the Desktop Icons and
startup programs takes ovr 5mins to display.

Also when using Internet explorer it takes a few minutes
to lunch, and the CPU utilization is around 90% during
use, turning my internet experience into a very slow one...

Any one has encountered this problem?

Yes, check your Event Viewer also to make sure it isn't corrupt in System,
Security, and.or Application Viewer...
before the event viewer, there was trouble setting the pagefile size. It
could only be done through the registry.
Afterward, pagefile was filled up. I have 2000Meg of PC2700/333 and virtual
memory set as high as 4000Meg.
After rebuilding the pagfile, three times in a row, now having trouble with
wide band connection a lazy browzer and slow email d/l time.
I am so careful, it bugs people, because the particular computer is used to
trade online, and I've had a suspicion for the past two to three there was
someone was in my box, but as far as I could tell, it wasn't being used for
a server for DVD's or MP3's or to serve SPAM up. It just was always talking.
The modem used to flicker and now it stays on solid more than not. I have
everyday up to date definitions, run AVP once a day early evening, and my
firewall is set to full stealth. I've rebuild the pagefile.sys four times
after running out of room and having a temporary pagefile generated. Ha, but
that makes it easier to create a new one. Don't need the Recovery Console
and do the copy a file over it trick. Maybe it would be better to understand
how to for it to create a temppf.sys, so it would be easier. Well, that's
all I know so far. Except I keep cleaning everything inside the box like it
was raped thinking I would clean it up or find another answer. Bout ready to
Format this *itch.

Try using Task Manager to view which process is consuming the CPU time.
Also take a look at the startup programs and try disabling them for
troubleshooting.

Very good thought, YAM
I might also add that when you have your Task manager open, click the CPU
header bar and that will place the highest users at the top. You can sit
there and watch the top rows to see which is using the most.

thx,
