Windows XP_fatal error after disk cleanup?

Hello,
I would appreciate hear your experience about this problem: after doing disk
desfragmentation and cleanup I couldn't launch XP: hard disk don't stop. I
tried to repair XP but the system diagnosed a Fatal Error: "one of the
components of windows needs to continue setup could not be installed and the
operation was cancealled: Digital signature... - error code fffffbfe; other
error: signature for windows update is not valid: error 0xfffffdca; in whole
5 errors were signed of this kind. I would like to recover this problem
without re-installing XP but I didn't succeed. I have lots of software
installed...and I will spend lots of time to recover. Do you have any hint
about what happened? and can I recover without having to do another XP
installation?

Thanks. Regards

Repair xp,as in booting to xp cd,selecting "install xp",select,"repair this
copy"
That attempt failed....Youre only other option might be,at xp cd boot menu,
press r For recovery,select 1 For C: Press enter key for password,type:
CHKDSK C: /R Type:EXIT When thru,let xp start.Or at pc start,tap the F8
key,select safe-mode,enter xp as administrator,reopen event viewer,try to
install what the OS needs.
