windows xp working slowly

sir,

i have p-4 pc and both windows xp and windows 98 on it.
but the windows is working very slowly. speed of my pc is
1.8 ghz . i have downloaded quite a few things from the
net does it have something to do with it. plz tell me
some suggestions to improve the performance and speed of
my pc. hope u will look into my request.

There could be a number of factors causing sluggish
performance. What I would try first would be to download
and install spybot

Run a scan and see if you have any spyware running. Let
it remove all spyware if you do have some. Spyware will
eat up resources and cause your system to slow down. I'd
start with this option first.
