Windows XP won't install Microsoft Intellipoint 6.1

Windows XP Pro. 4GB RAM. SP3 plus all updates since. C: Drive 56GB used
223GB Free.

Any thoughts?

Just guessing.. maybe some temp folder limit has been reached? try the
disk cleanup utility

Thanks for something to try. But the Disk Cleanup Utility didn't solve the
problem.

I have a feeling that a version lower than 6.1 is required for Windows XP.
It seems that 6.1 is for Vista.

However, I have downloaded a 4.2 version. When attempting to install, I am
informed that the prior version must be removed. When I do that, the
computer re-boots and the Plug & Play HID-compliant mouse is reinstalled. I
have a Microsoft Trackball Explorer.

Any further items to try?
