Tried "VundoFix"? Else, try a 'hijackthis'-group. They can/will do
wonders. HTH, s

Thousands of people have been infected by the many variants of Vundo.
Some of the newer variants also install a rootkit and are very difficult
to remove. You or someone using the computer probably tried to install
some dodgy codecs so s/he could play a downloaded video or the like. Of
course it is possible for your operating system to become infected by
something uncleanable. Life is like that.

Microsoft would not offer a fix; you need to clean up your computer.

Do the preparatory steps here:
http://www.elephantboycomputers.com/page2.html#Removing_Malware

Then do the specific removal steps here:
http://www.elephantboycomputers.com/page2.html#Winfixer - Winfixer

You can also check to see if there are targeted removal steps for your
malware here:
Bleeping Computer removal how-to's -
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/forum55.html

When all else fails, run HijackThis and post your log in one of the
specialty forums listed at the first link above (not here, please).

Standard caveat: If the procedures look too complex - and there is no
shame in admitting this isn't your cup of tea - take the machine to a
professional computer repair shop (not your local version of
BigComputerStore/GeekSquad). Please be aware that not all local shops
are skilled at removing malware and even if they are, your computer may
be so infested that Windows will need to be clean-installed. Have all
your data backed up before you take the machine into a shop.

The only alternative to going through the malware removal tediously and
systematically, probably with online help from an HJT forum, and taking
the machine to a real professional is to back up your data and do a
clean install of Windows. It's your call.

You were using IE allowing ActiveX components to run, it was your own
fault.

create a hijackthis file and have it analyzed
http://hijackthis.de/en

Stop the process running with Autoruns
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/sysinternals/Utilities/AutoRuns.mspx

And find another browser FireFox or Opera are good.

As the others have suggested: try FixVundo, and give the HijackThis
crowd a shot. But in between, try Google.

Are you serious? You are aware we are talking about Windows?
Of course you are, since you are X-posting to two Mac groups!
Yes - we are enjoying ourselves over here :)

Still, you *are* aware enough not to "run .exe files".
As pennywise suggested, you probably screwed up anyway.
If it helps in any way - you're not alone in that respect :)

Thank you Mr. Eklof for the heads-up. It will save me bothering with
this person in the future.

What? Just because someone called you a troll automatically makes you
a bad person? So what if I call Malke and Anders Eklöf a troll too,
huh?

For the record - I did *not* call you a troll.
I just pointed out - with a google link - that some people consider you
to be one, but most of the hits are where you call others "troll".
Interesting. Maybe it takes one to know one. If so - touché !!! :)

I wouldn't even have done the search if I hadn't read your Ubuntu
bashing last week. From that, I remembered your nick. Go figure.
