Windows XP Universal Image

I’m looking to create a universal image for all types of hardware
configurations. For example I have created a windows xp image using Ghost.
Installed the software needed for the deployment, etc. I have used sysprep to
reset SID's and Redetect PNP. The image was created on Athlon T-Bird 1.13
with 512 DDR, VIA Chipset. Problem is when the image is loaded on a Intel
system, cause the pc to do an infinite restart loop and the initial start of
windows xp.

This is the usage of sysprep.

sysprep -reseal -mini -activated -pnp -sysprep.ini

sysprep.ini is configured with our Corporate cdkey and region settings etc.

So what I am looking to do, as I said above is create a universal image for
all hardware configurations.

Thanks in Advance

It is my understanding that the very nature of the 'anti piracy elements' of
XP prevent a universal image fom being created.

This goes very far to promoting a 'standard operating environment' for
desktop computers within an organisation.

It forces one to minimise the variables such as make, model, etc within an
organistaion in order to maintain a few 'SOE' images.

A gain for Microsoft enforces pain for users, however this is the price the
user community pays for those who wish to steal from publishers such as
Microsoft.

So basically to create a universal image... this cannot be done, ok, thanks
for the info, back to the drawing table as they say, if anyone else knows
anything more, any info would be helpfull.

Thanks :)

You can make a Universal Image. The problem you are having is the different
HALs on the master compared to the clone. You will need to incoroporate the
intel IDE controller drivers on the master image. If you need to do it
manually, a good article to read is:

If you need a utility to do it:

Other things to consider is Volume Licensing and ACPI, NIC and Video
drivers. I hope this helps. Thank you.
