Hi,
I have just bought a new hard drive, partitioned it, and cloned my current
XP SP1 boot partition to the new hard drive. Problem is, just before the
login screen (where you click the required user), it just hangs showing the
blue screen with the Windows XP logo.
Initially, I couldn't boot at all with the new hard drive, as I hadn't set
the partition as active. I rectified this, and then I got the problem state
above.
I used Symantec Ghost 2003 but with the DOS boot disks. After cloning, I
removed my original hard drive and just had my new hard drive in place.
I have tried the FIXMBR and FIXBOOT commands in the recovery console to no
avail. I have even tried booting with a Linux cd to make sure the partition
is set as active. I am unable to access Safe Mode as I get the same
problem.
I can see all the files on my new hard drive no problem, just get the
strange booting problem.
Reason I am Ghosting my hard drive is 2 fold - bigger drive (from a 200GB to
320GB, system - i.e. boot - partition from 80GB to 120GB) and I also want to
install SP2 and all the updates without screwing up my system.
Can anyone help me please?
TIA
