Windows XP Service Pack 2

After upgrading to XP home Service Pack 2 I have the
following issues and ask if any one has had similar
problems and have found solutions to there resolution.

I upgraded on two systems a desktop and a laptop.

Problem #1: On the laptop I keep getting a warning that
my "computer might be at risk" "Your virus protection
status is unknown". Yet I have Norton Antivirus
Installed. The Desktop has no problem and it has Norton
System Works installed.

Problem # 2: On the desk top - If one person is logged
in and has an Internet Explorer session running another
person can log in but they cannot start another session
of Internet Explorer until the first person closes their
Internet Explorer session.

Problem # 3: Also on the desk top - If you are on a web-
site and you need to go to a web page that wants to open
an adobe PDF file I just get that Red Square Green Circle
Blue Triangle symbol in the upper left hand corner.

Thanks in advance for any and all help 

With regards to the antivirus warning: You can double-click on the "warning
shield" in the system tray and then select the option that indicates you
have your own virus scanning tool installed and it will stop nagging you.

With regards to the PDF item. There are a host of reasons why this might be
occurring. Usually means one or more registry entries related to Adobe are
messed up. The easiest way I know to correct this is to uninstall the Adobe
acrobat reader, reboot and then download and install the latest version from
www.adobe.com

If you are already running the latest version of the adobe acrobat reader
program you can try two other things:

1. Open acrobat reader and select "Edit Preferences"
2. Select "Internet"
3. Make sure the checkboxes for "Display PDF in browser" and "Check Browser
settings when starting acrobat" are checked.
4. Close and then re-start Acrobat. If it offers to "fix" your settings you
should be all set.

Option 2.
1. Go into the same preferences dialog and uncheck the box "Display PDF in
browser". This will cause Adobe to spawn a separate window for PDF files.

What version of NIS and AV? Not all of them talk to the Windows
security Center. Check on the Symantec site for info on your particular
products. You can change the way the security center alerts you to turn
off that warning (from an option within the security center). Sometimes
that doesn't stick after a reboot. If it doesn't then the recourse is
to turn off the security center service in services.msc.

Check on the adobe web site. They have specific information about this
problem.

That check in Security Center requires that the AV program report 'All
Present and correct'. NAV 2004 has a patch from Live Update that does
this; I am not sure if they as yet have done anything about NAV 2003;
they have said they will not patch 2002 or earlier. Not that it really
matters as long as you check on it yourself. Just click the 'change way
Security Center advises me' and tell it not to comment on AV
