Windows XP Professional Service Pack 2

Where do I get this? I recently ordered what I thought was it, but I inserted
the disc and found that it was just Windows XP SP2, not Professional. I am
having problems with my computer and this may solve the problem; when I run
SFC /scannow, it asks me to insert the XP Pro SP2, which I don't have. So I
need to know where I can get the disc, or where I can download something that
may help me. Was this disc supposed to come with my computer?

There are two ways to get it to complete. Uninstall sp2, then reinstall it
from the cd, or run SFC and simply keep pressing the 'retry' button till it
completes. (It may take several hundred times)

SP3 has not officially been released yet...so if you have an XP SP2
disk...then you have the latest version.

However maybe your machine has XP pro on it and the disk is XP home...
or visa-versa...either way, as you can see, that won;t work!

Look on your C drive for the i386 folder. If it is an OEM install, it might
be "C:\i386"
On my retail install it is "C:\WINDOWS\ServicePackFiles"
When you run "sfc /scannow" and it asks for the disk, direct it to the i386
folder.

You have the correct CD. There is only one, to be used on all Editions
of XP--Home, Professional, etc.

You're perhaps a little confused here. What is on the SP2 is not the full
XP install, but the full SP2 install, for both XP Home and Pro.

You can't do a full install with this CD, and it isn't appropriate for SFC.
I am
having problems with my computer and this may solve the problem; when I
run
SFC /scannow, it asks me to insert the XP Pro SP2, which I don't have.

SFC is referring to the XP Pro install media.

Try locating the i386 folder and pointing sfc there.

Note that if you have certain kinds of original install CDs, you can
slipstream them to SP2.
So I

that

Your computer had to come with some way to recover the OS. This can be a
full install disc, a set of restore/recovery discs, or a restore partition.
Some systems require you to make the restore discs yourself, and provide
software to help. Check your manual or the manufacturer's support.

Often you cannot use restore discs or partitions for SFC. Try locating the
i386 folder and pointing sfc there.
