Hello
I did a Windows XP Pro System Repair and I am no longer able to connect to the Internet. I'm logged in with Administrative permissions and only one user account. And I had manually set-up a prior connection for my DSL modem through the New Connection Wizard, but it no longer appears under my Network Connections. Also, when I've tried to re-set up this connection in the New Connection Wizard, the Connect using a dial-up modem and Connect using a broadband connection that requires a user name and password options are grayed out and I can't select them under the How do you want to connect to the Internet? step of the Wizard. The only option available is Connect using a broadband connection that is always on. But I need to set up this connection manually so that I can enter my user name and password.
I've tried to add a new connection under the Connections tab in the Internet Options of the Conrol Panel, and I get this error message:
Cannot load the Remote Access Connection Manager service
Error 711: A configuration error on this computer is preventing this connection.
I looked under the help files for this error code and then went to >> Control Panel >> Administrative Tools >> Services. And when I tried to Start the Remote Access Auto Connection Manager I got the following error message
Could not start the Remote Access Auto Connection Manager service on Local Computer
Error 1068: The dependency service or group failed to star
I also tried to start the Remote Access Connection Manager and I got this message
Could not start the Remote Access Connection Manager service on Local Computer
Error 5: Access is denie
I also attempted to use System Restore to go back before the repair and I got this message
The procedure entry point RemoteAssistancePrepareSystemRestore could not be located in the dynamic link library WINSTA.dl
I get the same error messages and problems logged in under safe mode. The DSL modem is on and plugged in, the dial-up modem is connected to a phone line, enabled, and is reporting no errors, and they were both working fine until I did the system repair
Please hel
Thank You
Tobias
