Windows XP pro recovery

Last Satuday when I turned on my computer, it would not load windows. It
gets as far as the windows screen then flashes a blue screen very quickly and
reboots. It goes to the safe mode ... screen and waits for me to choose an
option. I have tried every option and the same thing happens for all of
them. I tried running the install to repair the installation and i get the
following message:

Examining 152626 MB Disk 0 at ID 0 on Bus 0 on VIASRAID [MBR]

After about 45 minutes I get the screen to accept Microsoft terms and push
F8 to continue. After a while I get the following message:

-:pARTITION1 [UNKNOWN] 99998MB (99998 MB FREE)
-:pARTITION2 [UNKNOWN] 52626MB (52627 MB FREE)

I choose partition 1 and it says it is "updating 152626

After a while I then get the following message:

An error occured while setup was updating partition information on 152626.
Setup cannot continue. To quit press F3.

I also tried running the Seatools Diagnostic Quick test and it gets stuck on
the NTFS test.

I am running out of options. I think the data still exists on the HD but I
am unable to access it. I would like to get access to it long enough to copy
the important data to a new HD.

Has anyone encountered this problem and if so, can you help me recover from
it?

Thanks,
Zippy

Zippy,

I'd hazard to guess that your hard drive is dying. What is the exact blue
screen error? You might also try running recovery console and attempting to
fix the boot sector. Can you browse the directory structure when using
recovery console?

Kind Regards,

The blue screen flashes for less than a second so it is unreadable. I tried
recovery console but can do nothing there either.
