Windows XP Pro Install fails with Windows Setup Error

W

William Kosmann

I am seting up a new PC. I am using a new Asus P4P 800
motherboard, new Intel P IV 2.8 GHz CPU, new 512 MB of
Micron Crucial 3200 DDR memory, new Samsung 80 GB ATA 100
HD, new generic CD R/W drive. Setup fails just after the
second phase Windows Setup screen starts, indicating 39
minutes to go. Setup is copying files from the CD to the
HD. The specific error message is:

SXS.dll Syntax error in manifest or policy file D:\I386
\asms\1000\MSFT\Windows\GDIPLUS\GDIPLUS.man on line 4

Installation failed D:\I386\asms incorrect function.

Any idea what the problem is?

Possibly a bad disk. I have the same board, 2.6 chip and 1.0gig ram.

Run XP Pro, Fedora, SuSE 9.0, and Win 2000 Pro on two 60 gig IBM HD's
with no problems.
