Windows XP private folders

Dad

I made one of the folders private by mistake.

How do I convert it back to non-private status so I can
share it on the home network?

Hurry. can someone help? Windows XP help had no help or I
could not find whereever it was hiding.

The appropriate box you mentioned is greyed out. This is
the problem. How do I make this box ungreyed so I can
uncheck it.

The folder is under documents and Settings. I could make
another folder and copy all files and folders, hidden or
otherwise, and then delete the private folder. But that
would take 3 hours, so says XP. Also, I wish to know how
to solve the problem by unchecking the box, just as the
XP guide tells me to do.

So, why is the box greyed out and how do I fix it. I am
so frustrated.

In addition to JJ, is this a subdirectory of another that was also made
private?

Folder under discussion, Dad, is under folder
named "Docments and Settings" which can not be made a
private folder, and which has 7 other folders not marked
private under local sharing.

Only folder named Dad is marked private. Also all folders
under it are also marked private.

I had changed the original password with another one. But
it seems to me that as an administrator with full
controls over my computer changing the password should
not deny me to change the status of the folder.

I just don't get it.

Hi,

Did you force a password reset from the admin account? This can cause loss
of access to certain user settings.

It is possible, although I do not understand how to force
password reset. I do know that I changed the password
once.

Anyway, there should always be a way to rectify the
mistakes. Now I don't know what to do.

I want to thank you for your help. If something else
comes to you to solve my problem I certianly would be
grateful to hear from you.

Hi,

I noticed you never answered JJ's last question - is this the same account?
Or a new one that was created using the same name?
