windows xp installation to a scsi drive

I have a compaq deskpro 2000 and it doesn't boot from the CD..
It prompts that ntldr is missing.
I have win xp pro installed, but I'd like to re-install it due to bad
previous hard disk.
I have IDE cd-rom drive.

I am not familiar with your Compaq but if you enter the BIOS and Change the boot
up sequence so that the CD drive is listed as 1st boot device...will it boot
from the CD then?? Will you get a message at the startup that says push any key
to start from CD??
