Windows XP Home Upgrade to XP Pro : Remote Desktop not working

T

Thomas Collier

Hi,

After upgrading Windows XP NL Home to Windows XP NL Pro we are unable to get
RDP working

We can enable the Remote Desktop, and there is a noticable change, we can
connect quickly, you see the screen go black and after this the remote
desktop is "disconnected".

What i already have done :

1) Re-Apply Service Pack 2
2) Full Windows Updates
3) Optional Download : Microsoft Terminal Client 6.0
4) Replace termserv.dll manually from a working Windows XP Pro NL
5) Enable Terminal Services in Local Group Policy
6) Disable Windows Firewall

There is no Anti-Virus Firewall installed.

Please Advice

Sometimes problems like that are fixed by updating the video drivers on your
machines.

Hi,

The nVidia card is replaced and the drivers are installed are the latest, I
uninstall the drivers with the Driver Cleaner utility and installed the
latest then.

Are there any other things to check?

You might try reregistering Remote Desktop. You can reregister Remote
Desktop by running the following command from a
command prompt. Make sure you have administrator privileges. Reboot the PC
after doing this...

regsvr32 remotepg.dll

* A fix of last resort is a "Repair Reinstall" of the OS. Backup any
critical data just in case. Note the warnings on the page...
