Windows XP Home setup errors

Doug

I am building my own system:
Asus mohterboard
AMD 2500+
1GB ram
MAxtor DiamondMax Plus HD 120 GB

All parts are assembled. I try loading Windows XP for the
first time and I get an error message saying

File setupdd.sys could not be loaded
The Error Code is 4

Can anyone help me? I can't get XP to load. I have tried
from both the CD of XP and from XP boot disks, but I
always get to the same point, where the set up stops (the
message at the bottom says "..Kernel dll" at the point
where it stops).

Please help.

Thanks

I am not sure what error code 4 is. I have run into a
similar problem. You might have some bad system memory.
See if there is a way you can test each memory module you
have. Maybe just try and install XP with 512 MB, assuming
you have 2 installed in your RAM slots. Just try 1, and
see what happens. If you get XP installed and set the way
you want it, all you have to do after that is put the
other RAM in.
If the RAM module left in gives you the same code 4 error
duing XP install, switch RAM modules and try again.
