I run windows xp home edt with service pack 1&2 installed
I have a full version Windows XP home etd on disc
But when i go to add any tools from the disc or reinstall it will not run
telling me that my present version of win xp is more upto date than the disc
version.
Is there any way around this problem or do i need to buy a new home edt with
ser packs included.
Any help please Thank you

Hi, Tetley.

No, you can't reinstall an RTM or SP1 version of WinXP over your SP2
version. The best solution is to buy a new CD with SP2 integrated, of
course, but that expense should not be necessary. Another way is to use
your CD burner to create your own "slipstreamed" version of WinXP with SP2.

Which "tools" are you wanting to add? I haven't tried it, but I think you
should be able to add those by simply putting the CD in your drive and
access it with Windows Explorer, just like any other software CD. Or, if
that tool was updated by SP2, then use your WinXP SP2 CD in the same way.
(If SP2 was installed by Automatic Update, the tools you need may already be
on your HD, but you might need help to find and install them.)

If that doesn't work, post back and tell us which tools you need.

No you don't need to buy a new home edition. if you have the full boxed
retail version of XP home and a copy of XP Service pack 2 you could actually
slipstream the two and then create a new 'updated' copy to transfer to a cd.
Visit my web site http://xphelpandsupport.mvps.org Click the Win XP Faq
button and take a look at question 83. If you don't have a copy of service
pack 2 take a look at question 80 where you can get information on how to
download the full version from Microsoft.
