Windows XP Has Crashed...Please Help!

Last night my Windows XP crashed and when my system starts, Windows does not
start normally but rather a message appears saying that "Windows did not
start normally" and that I have options such as "safe mode", "safe mode with
command prompt", "safe mode with networking", "last known good configuration"
or "start windows normally".

If I choose the latter two, it starts again and takes me back to this stupid
message. I really want to pitch the thing out the window, but really need to
use that machine.

Can someone please help me out and let me know how I can get Windows to run
properly again?

I would greatly appreciate all of your help.

Go into Safe Mode without networking. Clean off any spyware/adware/malware,
etc. Do a clean up. Do a chkdsk. Do a defrag and see if you can't go back
into normal mode.

Can you get into safe mode at all? If so use system restore to go back
to a date prior to the crash.
