windows xp evaluation license and upgrade

Hi, just installed windows xp evaluation with 120 days,
and I have win 98 before, hence I qualify for the upgrade.

However, the knowledge base articles says I have to have a
retail version, is this true?

the reason is that the on the cd it prints like below:

if you install the microsoft windows xp professional
upgrade product(xp upgrade), you must activate the xp
product immediately after its installation.

so , it appears I can use the upgrade cd.

what is right?

You can use upgrade media to clean install or upgrade as long as you have
qualifying media. If its an eval copy, then it is timebombed and not meant
for long term use.
