Windows XP CD for preinstalled XP

I am experiencing the agp440.sys boot problem. I can
still boot, but I have to try 3 or 4 times before it is
successful. I reinstalled the nVidia Riva driver but I
still hang up at agp440.sys. KB article 324764 suggests
disabling agp440 using the recovery console. Problem my
Sony Vaio didn't come with a XP installation disk, only a
system recovery disk that wipes out everything and starts
over. Not my preferred option.

Is there some way to enable Recovery Console without the
installation disk? Or is there some way of obtaining an
XP installation disk? After all, this is a legal
installation of XP.

Answers to these questions or any other ideas would be
greatly appreciated.

I don't think you need a CD key to install the recovery console.
Perhaps you could borrow an XP CD from a friend and use it to install
the console?

Here's another idea that doesn't require the console:
When you are able to boot successfully, get into Device Manager,
Enable the "Show Hidden Devices" on the View menu and a new "Non Plug
and Play Drivers" (or similar) item should appear in the tree. Expand
that and look for AGP440. Right click it and select Disable or
Uninstall (whatever you feel is best). Or you can select Properties
for that device and go to the Driver tab and set the Startup type to
Disabled.
