The blue window comes up. It tells me to uninstall any anti-virus software,
firewalls and utilities. It gives me all the options (reboot, go back to last
good setting, etc) but not one of them works. All of them just run through
the list of partitions and goes back to the blue screen.

F2, F12, G8 didn't help much. Right now I'm running a tree of tests but so
far they're all pass. So, should I turn the power off and reboot it? Will
that clear the capacitators? Will that matter at all?

Oh, I do get the Windows XP logging on window, the one with the blue runner
at the bottom, but then it just goes to the blue screen again.

A key piece of information is the STOP code on the blue screen, and the
error identifier text at the end of it (don't bother with the stack dump).
If you post the STOP error and more information about when it appears,
that'd be a big help.

As Patrick says a copy of the Stop Error Report is needed.

Disable automatic restart on system failure. This should help by
allowing time to write down the STOP code properly. Right click on
the My Computer icon on the Desktop and select Properties, Advanced,
Start-Up and Recovery, System Failure and uncheck box before
Automatically Restart.

Do not re-enable automatic restart on system failure even after you have
solved the problem as it's better disabled. Check for variants of the
Stop Error message.

An alternative is to keep pressing the F8 key during Start-Up and select
option - Disable automatic restart on system failure.

If you are using a wireless keyboard and the F8 key does not work
substitute a wired keyboard and mouse for this exercise only.

Hope this helps.
