Windows won't shut down

Hello,
On my XP Pro machine (SP2) I've started having a strange problem. I'm using
MSOffice 2003. Yesterday this started happening...
As long as I don't start Outlook, everything seems to function normally. I
can start apps and do a manual shut down. But after starting Outlook, some
apps won't start and when I do a Start/Shut Down, the task bar at the bottom
goes away but then comes right back and Windows never shuts down. Even if I
shut down Outlook this still happens.
If I turn the machine off and do a reboot and don't start Outlook, then
everything seems to function normally. \
Does anyone have a clue what might be going on?
I've done a full scan with Ad-Aware SE and Norton Antivirus (all updated
defs on both) and found no problems.
