Windows Won't Complete Installation

Hi,

I'm trying to install Windows XP Pro on my computer. I get past the
CD-Setup. And when Windows boots for the first time from the Hard Disk, and
finishes the installation.

I get to the step where there is the progress bar that says "Installing
Devices..." and I can get to about 75%, then the screen will flicker and the
system will lock up. I've tried this at least 7 times and it has done the
same thing each time. I have also tried doing a complete installation on a
different computer, and then swapping the hard drives. Although it installs
on the other computer, when I swap it will not boot at all. It gives me the
screen where I can choose between Safe Mode, Normal Config, Last known
Config... Etc. But when I select one it will also lock up.

My PC meets the requirements:
PII 400MHZ
256 MB RAM
40 GB HDD
CD-ROM
Mouse, Keyboard

I know that these specs are nothing special (Although my other PC is AMD
3800, 1 GB RAM and Nvidia 6800GT =P ) but I just want to install windows so I
can have a makeshift network server, and it meets the minimal requirements
that Microsoft says I need.

Is there anythink I can do?

I've got the same problem! I get a million different suggestions. I've
yanked out all my USB devices, disconnected my dial-up modem, etc. and the
problem persists.

Under identical conditions, Windows 2000 installs PERFECTLY -- but not XP.

I have an ASUS P4PE MOBO, 1 gig of RAM and ATI's 8500DV video card.

People have suggested I use a different video card.

Why don't you take the video card out of the other system and put it into
the system that locks up during the Install?

That information would help me as well!
