Windows welcome screen bypassing user account

Hi. I had to have Windows re-installed on my laptop this past week. Upon
getting the computer back, I start it up and the Welcome Screen bypasses the
part where you click on the user name to log onto windows. I've been reading
different postings and still have not found the solution to my problem. I've
checked the USER ACCOUNT file in the control panel, and both the boxes are
checked for the welcome screen and the fast switching. I ran the suggestion
to click Start, Run, and control userpasswords2 with no luck, and then I've
checked the registry and the value is set at 1, I ran the XP Log On tool
which checks the GINA value and it came back as OK. I am not an expert
computer user, and I feel that something is not right because my welcome
screen is not asking me to log on. Is there something I can do to get the
welcome screen to work again? It works if I set a password to log onto
windows, but it does not work if there is no password set. Thank you so much
in advance for any and all assistance.

If you only have one account and no password set then there is no point in
the welcome screen showing the user login. I think that is the default is
you don't set a password or did it used to be different.

Thanks for your reply. I never originally set a password. I set one to see
if the welcome screen would pop up and then removed it the same day. As long
as there is nothing wrong with my Windows, that's what matters to me. As I
said earlier, I had windows reinstalled this past week and I am a bit nervous
with it and don't want to have anything wrong with it. Thanks again!!
