Windows Vista keeps closing all opened windows when X closed

I've read some of the problems about windows closing all linked windows when
the X is closed.
I have the same problem but don't understand this thing about add-on (novice
here).
Is there an idiots guide to Vista or someone who can help stop this happening?
When I have a website open and several windows open on that websit I cannot
close one window without all the windows closing, help!
A prime example is the W H Smith website.
When trying to order an item I can get so far with the process until the
window that asks for delivery address - shop or home - appears. This window
automatically closes when ticked that's when all the windows for that website
closes, so I cannot complete the transaction.
This happens all the time with most websites that require more than one
window open, which you then cannot close but have to leave open. If you have
too many open the programme then crashes. Very frustrating.
Bring back XP!

Hi,
Have you seen that in the taskbar there are several tabs for the different
open sites.
When you close via the X on the main site it is logical that everthing is
closed...but first you got a question "Do you want to close all tabs?"

If you want to close an individual site you have to click only the x on the
right tab.

Regards
Huib

Are you referring to the X on the tabs or the X in the upper right corner of
the program?

First you need to realize that IE is a tab system that means that as you go
from page to page on a web site it open new tabbed pages. You can the easily
go back to a previous page or further back using the tabs. If you use the
red X, top left all tabs with be closed. You can right click each individual
tab to close it.

The program crashes for any number of reasons. You could have given to many
click instructions at once. You could have run low on memory having been
using the web for a long while you could have security set to high, I could
go on.

If you use the help on IE and search for Tab and click number 8 question you
can learn all about tabs.
