Windows very slow 'Loading your personal settings'

I really need some help and am reaching the point of sheer desperation now! I
have a Dell Latitude D600 laptop with WinXP SP2. When I boot the machine up
it takes quite some time when 'Loading Your Personal Settings'. I would say
approximately one minute (much longer than it used to). When Windows finally
loads I can never get it to display my selected background picture - it
always resets itself to the standard blue colour. I've tried just about
everything possible and it is still very slow and won't save my background.
The only background it will keep is the Windows XP theme. It will not save a
modified theme.

What's even more strange is that Outlook Express is not saving my e-mails
either... when I shut down and start Windows all my e-mails have vanished!

My laptop does connect to the network at my place of work but I do not 'Log
in' to the network (I have access to my network file the printers). Therefore
the 'User' never changes from the one I usually log in as.

I hope someone can shed some light on this! Please!

Thanks!!!

Hi

it seems to be a problem with your profile, try to login using a local
administrator account and delete your user profile and login again using your
account.

that should work
