When I click on windows update it goes straight out to the site
http://v5.windowsupdate.microsoft.com/v5consumer/default.aspx?ln=en-us and
just hangs there going nowhere and there is no response on any of the links
on that page.
Is my windows update broken? How can I fix it. I don't like not to have my
updates?
Thanks,
Nancy

Also you can post a message to the experts in the Windows Update Newsgroup
news://msnews.microsoft.com/microsoft.public.windowsupdate

See these windows update troubleshooters:

And from a previous post by Torgeir Bakken:

You could try the steps in this post to try to get WU to work:

http://groups.google.com/[email protected]

If nothing there worked, try the steps in this post:

http://groups.google.com/groups?selm=Osk#[email protected]

If that didn't work either, check that WuWebControlClass is enabled in
Internet Explorer:

Had the same problem. On I believe 9/30/04 Norton had a virus update. The
virus was W32.spybot.Worm My virus scan (Norton) found it as Wuamngr32.exe.
Norton found it, repaired it and created a backup copy of the file. I have
since just downloaded SP2 and everything seems great so far. My computer
would freeze up no matter what I clicked that had to do with windows update.
Symantec.com has this virus listed so you can see what all it affects.
Cant say this "is" the cause but might be worth checking out. Hope it
works for you.
