Windows Update error

C

Clarence Wills

Tried to run Windows Update but get this Error: Windows
Update has encountered an error and cannot display the
requested page.
Send error number to Microsoft (0x800A138F)
This is a new install with Windows 2000 Professional sp3
installd on PC & hooked to a LAN.
I would have tried the supposed fix by deleting the files
in the "v4 folder", but I don't a v4 folder nor a Windows
Update folder.

Any ideas how to fix this problem

Windows Update folder is hidden by default. Here are some suggested fixes
for this error:

* Make sure date and time are correct.
* Hit https://v4.windowsupdate.microsoft.com instead.
* Delete Windows Update folder in Program Files (hidden folder by
default). [If you wish to keep previous WU history, do not delete
iuhist.xml in V4 folder]
Internet Options:
* Add at least one language (General tab, Languages)
* Delete temporary internet files (General)
* Make sure security setting for Trusted sites is Low and add WU
addresses plus *.akamai.net to Trusted sites. (Security)
* Make sure no WU or Akamai sites are in Restricted (Security)
* Clear SSL state (Content tab) and Autocomplete (Personal Info)
* Check use SSL 2.0 and 3.0 (Advanced, Settings)
* Uncheck Server Cert revocation (Advanced, Security)
Other
* Unblock port 443
* If cipher strength = 0 (About Internet Explorer)

* Disable Spyblocker
* AOL users - go to WU site via Start button
