Windows trial?

I work in the tech dept of a community college, and weh have a volume lisence
for windows. The A+ class wants to have cd's for 98,2000 and xp to install
them and upgrade them. We usted to give them a ghost disk that would install
them but wouldn't let them upgrage. Now they want to upgrade them but we do
not want to give them the cd's with the volume lisence code. Is their a trial
version of vindows out there? It doesn't have to be fully functionl or a time
limit on it would be fine. Thanks

Any release of XP will allow you to use it unactivated for 30 days but
for upgrading you will need to use either a Full release or an Upgrade
release, an OEM release cannot do an upgrade over a previous version of
Windows.

Sure there are, all of them will allow use for 30 days without
activation. Not truly "trial versions' but they will certainly work for
the purposes of the class.

There are trials for Windows XP, but AKAIK, they are all part of a book and
the cost would probably be prohibitive:

What you suggest is not a trial.
Most reputable businesses will not violate the license agreement by using it
as a trial and are also unwilling to place themselves at risk of violating
the license.

Why doesn't the school get an MSDN subscription for the class?

Yeah, you're probably right. It was just an idea that would probably
work. They still have trials of Win2K3 server. Why not XP? Nevermind, I
know the answer... $$$
